On my 22nd birthday, we took a trip to Los Angeles for wedding planning purposes and some pleasure as well. We went with my mom and sister and had Roscoe's for the first time.
This trip was John's visit after deployment, and also the year and month he proposed (he actually did it a few days after this day trip). I got two free tickets to use for Wild Animal Park because we chaperoned for the school I was working for and they let me bring him along. We were with the students for a bit, and another teacher let us hang out on our own to check out the park for about an hour. Which was nice of her. She knew John had just gotten back from deployment, so I think that could be why she was so nice. My favorite was the safari ride along the park because we got to see animals roam around near by.
This was my first time visiting Joh when he first moved to Virginia. I remember going to the mall after apartment hunting and saw this sign and was like "What the fuhhhh!?" I remember when Virginia was so new to me, and everything was so foreign... now Im basically considered a local!
On one of John's day off, we went kayaking for the first time at Lake Lonely. Such a sad name for a lake! We were the only ones out on the lake at that time. Im sure there were more people, but not in the area we were at. It was tiring! Im just glad it didnt rain, because the weather out there was bipolar!
While visiting John, I also got my first tattoo the same time John got his 4th one. It was my 21st birthday gift from him! It was a spur of the moment, but I loved it and still do! I hardly ever see it because its on my back. Ha!
We took a trip to Boston for the first time in June of 2008. It instantly became one of my favorite cities (its funny cuz that list has definitely grown since!). We went the day of the Celtics parade after they won the NBA Championship. It was insane. Im not a big fan of basketball anymore, so I didnt keep track and had no idea it was that day. The crowd didnt stop us from enjoying the city. John took me to one of his favorite sneaker shops out east called Bodega. Its pretty cool cuz its a hidden shoe store. From the outside youd think you were walking inside a grocery store, then theres this hidden door in the back that leads you into the shoe store. Crazy cool! I also enjoyed Quincy Market and all the food stands that it offered. Pretty neat!
This was my first visit to see him after he joined the military. He was in A-School at the time of my visit. Look how skinny he was!! We had close family friends living in Charleston so I was able to stay with them while John was in school, then Id hang out with John in the afternoons and over the weekend. It was my first time on the east coast, but definitely not my last.
He showed me around town and did fun activities. My favorite was when he took me jetskiing for the first time!! And while we were on the water, there were 5 dolphins swimming near us. At first I was freaking out and scared, and John assured me it'll be okay. I was so frightened, cuz I thought they were sharks! lol
I cant remember exactly when in 2006 this was but I know it was before John left for bootcamp. It was our first time at this amusement park and we went with two of our friends who were dating at the time.
Our first trip to big bear was in the fall of 2006, we took a trip up with a high school friend who didnt live too far from it, so we took a day trip up to check out the area. It was a nice vibe away from the city.
December 2006 - John and I, along with 19 other friends, got together and took a trip to big bear for everyone's first snowboarding trip and most of our first time seeing actual snow! After this trip, we were addicted to snowboarding! We rented out a 5 bedroom cabin for 3 days, 2 nights. It was one of the best memories I've had that year. It was also the last year that everyone was gonna be together, with everyone back to college (some went away for college) and John leaving for boot camp.
This trip marked our first of many out of town trips (with my family). This was sometime senior year in high school I believe. I was so happy when my parents let him come on our annual family trip! We’ve gone to several trips before this, but it was school affiliated, so being able to have him join us for a family trip out of town was special.
Glad you're here! Whats with the blog name? Simple--
Definition of ADVENTURE:
1 b : the encountering of risks
2 : an exciting or remarkable experience
Life itself is an adventure. We don't have to go very far to find it. Things that occur daily can be an adventure, its up to you to make it one. This blog serves as a journal and collection of 'exciting and remarkable' life experiences together as husband and wife, in both our everyday lives and through travel. The EJJE part is our first and middle initials combined together. That started back our sophomore year in high school, about a year after we started dating, it was just a quick way to label us. Corny, I know! Ha! The birth of 'Adventures of EJJE' started back in 2012 after our zip-lining shenanigans at GoApe and I started documenting our lives via video diaries or "vlogs" and would post them via youtube. We started dating back our freshman year in high school (2002), and have been married since 2010. Time sure does fly! We both grew up in San Diego, California and because John decided to join the military after high school, we are now residing in Virginia.
We try and visit a place we’ve never been at least once a year, whether it be near or far, just as long as we go somewhere! With the career path John has chosen, we were fortunate enough to see different parts of our country. Although we have only seen and visited a small portion, we want to slowly cross off places and things from our every growing bucket list!
We’re also both into photography so everything and every place are always documented; through pictures and/or videos. I have a separate site for our photography business if anyone is interested.
Cheers,
The Hugos
